Single malt vs blended
- Single malt: one distillery, malted barley only, more character.
- Blended: several whiskies married for a smooth, consistent taste.
- Neither is “better”; blends are the easier place to start.
Shop blended
Age and strength
- The age is the youngest whisky in the bottle; older is usually rounder, not always better.
- Most bottles are 40–43% ABV; “cask strength” can pass 55%.
- Nepali whiskies are often 42.8%: a little stronger than Scotch.

How to drink it
- Neat in a tumbler, with a few drops of water to open the aroma.
- On the rocks for a colder, softer sip; a highball with soda for long evenings.
- Bourbon’s sweetness suits cola; peated malts are best on their own.
